I am blessed

I am blessed!

I have so much to be thankful for!

Today I had my yearly checkup with my oncologist. My tenth annual check since being diagnosed with breast cancer and undergoing surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. The tenth time that I've been scanned and questioned and prodded and poked and proclaimed cancer free.

And this time the doctor said that I don't have to come back anymore.

Let's just sit with that for a moment, shall we? My oncologist says that the risk of me suffering a relapse is so small that I no longer need to be under his care. That's pretty good news, right?

And you know what? I nearly didn't appreciate it.

I left the doctor's office thinking about how I had ticked another thing off my to-do list.

"Attend annual check-up with oncologist. Check!"

And I turned my thoughts to what else I had to accomplish today.

And I allowed myself to feel a bit grumbly about this and that, and even to indulge in a bit of worrying...as mums do.

But then I stopped. And remembered...

What you think about and what you believe matters.

And I believe that I am blessed.

And I choose to focus on my blessings and be thankful.

So join with me in smiling. And thinking about what a wonderful day it is today. And what a wonderful thing it is to be alive in it!

iLight Marina Bay 2012 Media Preview - Videos Inclusive

Was at i Light Marina Bay 2012 Media Preview last Wednesday, together with my 2 interns, David and Sharmain. To support Students Care Service carnival of drums and better understand about i Light Marina Bay 2012, (and of course I was once a Marina Bay aMBAYssador), took a small trail around Marina Bay waterfront before the grand opening on 9th March 2012.

Seen here is Mary-Anne Kyriakou, (extreme left) , who's the founder and  festival director of both i Light Marina Bay 2010 and Smart Light Sydney 2009. The mother to be is a renowned lighting designer and music composer. Her light art and design practice is called Studio Kybra.

" This year's festival has a great line up of light art sculptures that build on the 2010 event. With over half the works as new commissions, we are pleased to see the growth of light art in Singapore and the region. With additional support from corporations to reduce power consumption during the festival period, i Light Marina Bay is fast becoming a leading ecological light art festival. "

- Mary-Anne Kyriakou

Remember to grab a copy of the Marina Bay i Light installations map before you embark on the light trail! You can head on to Marina Bay City Gallery to ask any of the friendly staff there for a copy. =)

Can't possible introduce to you each and every installation, but here's some highlights!

Station 13: Parmenides I
Dev Harlan , USA

Parmenides I is a hypnotic 3D projection of swirling abstract patterns which create an amazing sense of movement, colour and form. Reminiscent of 1960s Op Art, it is a large scale geometric sculpture incorporating 360º projection-mapped video. Even when projectors are switched off, audiences can appreciate the work for its sculptural aesthetic.

Comments: Special effect of the patterns & lines! Isn't it amazing that simple shapes like those featured above can create wonders? Simplicity is the best yea. ;)

Groupe LAPS , France

Key Frames makes use of LED light tubes to create a display of more than twenty static stick figures. When paired with an electrifying soundtrack, the lights create a choreographed display which evokes movement, activity and a festive atmosphere. Originally commissioned for the Fête des Lumières in Lyon, France, the same work will once again delight audiences - this time at Marina Bay.

Comments: The LED light tubes shines to the tempo of the music, at the same time making the stick figures seem as though they are instil with life! Tap your feet and bounce to the rhythm of the choreographed display, but some parts can be quite spooky though!

Installation 18: Garden of Light
Hexogon Soluion, Singapore

Showtimes:
8:15pm, 8:45pm,
9:15pm, 9:45pm,
10:15pm, 10:45pm

Garden of Light is an ambitious projection on the surface of the ArtScience Museum at Marina Bay Sands incorporating a variety of light and sound effects to tell a story about environmental sustainability and highlight the beauty of the natural world. The projectors make no impact on the surface of the Art Science Museum but create a spectacular effect visible from several vantage points throughout Marina Bay.

Comments: Personally felt that this is the highlight and "must-see" installation! The light and music effects, projected on the surface of ArtScience Museum illustrates the story and beauty of the natural world. Best viewed from The Helix, and remember to take down the respective showtimes to avoid disappointments!

Installation 25: Deck Journey
Zulkifle Mahmod, Singapore

In Deck Journey, eight deck chairs are set up along the waterfront. When a visitor sits on one of them, it lights up and transmits a specially created soundscape. The visitor is enveloped in a light and sound bubble while enjoying a view of Marina Bay. This festival commission reduces energy consumption through the use of energy efficient LEDs.

Comments: So thoughtful of the organizing committee! Apart from appreciating the artwork which blends well with the waterfront, take a short break and rest on the chairs if you feel tired! Take a deep breath, look far and enjoy the beautiful skyline!

Ryf Zaini, Singapore

5QU1D is a hybrid squid-like creature embedded with blinking lights emerging from the sea to merge itself with the skyscrapers. This work references the rapid changes in our modernizing world and the effects they have on the natural environment. It is composed of recycled and used electronic parts, and LED lighting systems. This work is a festival commission.

Comments: Didn't know this installation was made up of recycled and used materials, creative idea by the artist!

 Installtion 27: The Gate
Li Hui, China

Whether a path to another realm, another level of spirituality or simply another beginning, a gate is a symbol of many things. In Li’s work, The Gate becomes a powerful image of passage and enlightenment. Hundreds of small beams of low intensity laser light frame the entryway and radiate straight past the viewer, splashing red into eternity.

Comments: Don't worry, the laser will not hurt you! Look at the pictures above, doesn't it explains all?
Had fun posing with the laser lights!

Thanks to my 2 interns who had helped to capture the essence of the i Light Marina Bay 2012!

Carnival of Drums Sneak Peek!

Couldn't control myself to upload a few pictures here.
Was at Marina Bay Singapore today, supporting Students Care Service(SCS), as SCS is Bosch Automotive Singapore's corporate social responsibility (CSR) organization.

Seen here with Joanne, David, Samantha, Sharmain and myself, at Carnival of drums.

Though the final highlight of the day, getting 2000 people to hit the drums in the circle couldn't be done due to the bad weather, but had witnessed the team spirit and determination of the staff of SCS and drummers.
Thanks to my girlfriend and her cousin, Jonathan who had both came down too!

Will be back with more updates!

Balance; take two

So... The post I wrote yesterday; the one about balance? I'm giving it another shot.

Basically, I'm struggling with going overboard in one area of my life to the detriment of other areas.

Does that ever happen to you?

At the moment I seem to be in my "superwoman" phase; thinking that I can "do it all". And what's worse; thinking that I should do it all.

What's that about?

For some time I was working on loving and nurturing myself; but now that I'm feeling strong I'm working on loving others and giving and contributing to the world at large. For some reason, I can't seem to manage to do both in moderation. I'd love any advice.

I'm going to stop now and publish this post before Blogger has a chance to eat it. I've got more to say, but I'll save it for another day.

Thanks for hanging in there with me dear readers.

Desperately seeking balance

So I wrote a whole post, my first in ages, and Blogger ate it. The end. Cranky face.
