2010 double-image recapped!

Coming to the end of 2010... looking through the pictures really bring back lot's of memories! Let's start the ball rolling with January 2010...

Jan 2010.
My first filming experience with Wawa pictures, 我要当食神 Season 1. Thanks to all my hall 14 fellow friends who dropped by and gave me lots of support! Filming was a different experience, and thanks to the Make-Up artiste, Suhuan 姐, for inviting me for an editorial shoot for NTUC magazine. Haha...and Jan 2010 was my "slimmest" period. Running and swimming... just to look better on TV. Hahah! Also started my internship in Robert Bosch....

Feb 2010
Dong dong qiang, dong dong qiang! Chinese New Year Festive mood....celebration with friends, relatives, and eating non-stop. A good time for all to reunite, and catch up with one another what had happen the past year.

Mar 2010
NTUC mag article was out. Thanks to Suhuan 姐。Finally plucked out my tooth that gave me lots of problem. Knowing my Bosch Interns better...and we almost play badminton every week!

April 2010
Traveled out of Singapore finally. Been to Bintan with the Bosch German Interns. But came back with very bad rashes. Haha, but the experience was unique! Love the passion from the people, love the sea, love everything in Bintan. Also a month with lots of beer and partying at Zouk, zouk, and more zouk. Lol...Almost went Zouk every week...seriously. Lol.

May 2010
Busy month at Bosch, with the opening ceremony, and rushing my Final Internship Report. Shiong. Was involved with the Bosch Introductory Video... being a Mechanic, although my real task in Bosch was a marketing intern. Haha!

Jun 2010.
2nd time traveling out of Singapore. This time, to Bangkok, the land of all smiles! With Markus, Marco, Christian, we spent our 5 days trip in Bkk, at my supervisor's place. The Thai massage was superb...and so were the Thai spicy food. Red Shirts? Nah... we didn't see any. =)

3rd time traveling out of Singapore, within 6 months. For the first time I've been traveling so frequent in a year. This time, to Hongkong... with the German interns again. Met up with friends in Hongkong, Seeman, Heng Qing, Adeline, Songwei, Yanyi, Huihui. It's like a mini Singaporeans gathering in Hongkong. Get to know some Singaporeans on the plane as well. First time staying in a dorm...with people from US and Europe. Loves Hongkong... the food, the people... 买东西吃东西买东西吃东西!

August 2010
Bosch Automotive Carnival. First time put in charge such a big and massive project, together with my colleague, Joanne. Really spent my day and night in office, so much so that our boss Michael asked if there's a need to put a bed here. haha... record was coming office at 9am, and left office 7am the next day...and then...come back in less than 3 hours for a briefing. Crazy working hours... but I enjoyed it. =) Also get to know many suppliers and partners, such as Jeffrey Chung Models... August 2010, also marked the end of my internship in Bosch. Missed the people there...

Sept 2010
Month of farewell, as well as reunions. Sent my German friends, Marco and Christian off, and French intern, Magalie as well. Also the month of my birthday...and reunited with buddies, and also Hall 14 friends, and Mech Engine kakis as well...

Oct 2010
Halloween... Hall 14 D'n'D, Birthday parties. So many! Also went for 我要当食神 Season 2 filming... back to school, definitely a different feeling from working. But gonna treasure this period... my last year, in NTU. =)

Nov 2010
Busy with studies. Celebrated Justin's and Dr Yuen's birthday. Catching up with lots of people... preparations for exams... coming up in December.

December 2010
Crazy month, with exams. Sleepless nights. Begin with a professional communication presentation... and ended exams on 23rd Dec.我要当食神 season 2 aired on 7th December ..just 3 days before my first paper. After exams, celebrated Xmas season with 八仙, and hall 14 friends. Busy with FYP interim report...and also pre event post for Urban Development of Singapore (URA), on Marina Bay countdown. Lots of activities, but the cold December is not so cooling after all with lots of burning passion work to be done. At the same time, happy to see Fifth Avenue blog is doing some progress. =)

I shall end this entry, by thanking everyone who had assisted me one way or another. You know who you are. Without you guys, I wouldn't have been here blogging till now. Thanks , deep from my heart. 2010 was a fruitful year for me, so many activities, so many commitments. Hope that 2011 will be another fruitful year, with my graduation from NTU coming... and I'm sure, many things to be look forward to. =)

Happy New Year!

What does New Year mean to you?

For me, New Year's has never really been about New Year's Eve. It's always been more about New Year's Day.

I love the fresh start that a New Year brings.

I love opening the pages of a brand new journal and writing my goals for the year on the first page.

I truly believe that we can make a fresh start any day of the year. Every day can be a new beginning if we want it to be.

But for me, there's something special about the first day of a new year. Something that makes me feel more than ready to make changes, to let go of the old, and to make space for the new.

New Year's Day makes me feel thankful to be alive and grateful for all the blessings in my life.

And it gives me the feeling that I really can achieve all that I want to.

So from me to you --- Happy New Year!

A different sight of Singapore: Bring your family and friends to explore Marina Bay on New Year's Eve!

Bring your family and friends to Marina Bay on New Year's Eve! Countdown to 2011 with the rest of the Singaporeans! There are many places having countdown parties, but I'm sure Marina Bay will be a different experience for many. What else? It's free for all and open to the public! Well, was at Marina Bay yesterday and let me guide you through the trail and what you can expect on New Year's Eve!

Here's the map to the entire view of Marina Bay. Click on the picture for clearer view. Will like to bring your attention to the 4 MRT stiations which are located near the area. Namely Marina Bay, Raffles Place, and the 2 new circle line stations, Promenade and Esplanade MRT stations. Let's start with the Marina Bay City Gallery (Bottom) and then navigate the map in the anti-clockwise direction.

I will have to agree that Marina MRT Station is the nearest MRT to the event. From here, you can navigate yourself to the following places...

Marina Bay City Gallery.
On the actual day, this place will be closed. At normal working hours, this place is open to the public and there's an interactive 3D map of the Marina Bay skyline. It's pretty unique and you can get to know Marina Bay better. Well, too bad it's not open to the public during the event. However, it's pretty prominent from far, and use it as a distinct landmark to locate the place!

The Water Fountain
It's just located outside the Marina Bay City Gallery.
A pretty nice spot for many who enjoy taking pictures with family and friends. Now you don't have to travel all the way to Marina Barrage! There's one at Marina Bay too!

The Mist Walk
As the name suggests, this metal pipe structure gives off mist when the sensor detects someone is there. It's just less than 100m away from the Marina Bay City Gallery.

Breeze Shelters
Tired? Need a resting spot? Well, these breeze shelters has really gigantic fans attached to it, making sure that the restless souls will be energize again! Well, but the cooling weather these days, I don't think you will really need it right?

The gigantic fans ...

Now moving up the map, there's more stuffs! But Raffles Place MRT isn't that near, will explain later. But for those who need to take your dinner outside , you may want to come from Raffles Place MRT. The underground link has many food outlets ranging from Chinese food to Ice Cream shop. What's more! There are certain promotions going on, check out the Marina Bay countdown website for more lobangs!

Marina Bay Financial Centre
Now, look at the picture, do I have to explain further? The lighting is simply awesome!

The Promontory @ Marina Bay
Check out the yellow barricades. There are so many around the area. Locate them, and you will know you are at the right area. On New Year's Eve, there are various activities out there which will keep you entertained. Such as film screenings of our leaders' and well-known personalities dedications. There will also be screenings of a specially commissioned docu-drama of the inspiring true-life stories of Singaporeans directed by Sun Koh, the National Arts Council's Young Artist Award 2010 recipient. And it's FREE!!!

There will be many roving artists providing you entertainment performances... such as fire performers, stilt walkers...

Credit: Starlight Alchemy
And UV light performers! Take this opportunity to take pictures with them! They will be roving around from the Mist Walk area to Promontory area, from 6.30pm till 10.15pm...

If you intend to come from Raffles Place MRT, locate exit J, and look for the sign along the way. It will be an estimated 10 - 15min walk, but it will lead you to actual event area. Have a dinner in the Marina link mall, and walk abit to digest your food!

Here's the map in Marina Link Mall. As I've said, it's abit of distance from the MRT to The Promontory exit....one end to the other... print this out if you're afraid of getting lost!

Now, we move on to the next highlight of the day, celebrate countdown with Mediacorp channel 5! There are 2 MRT stations that are located near this place, namely the Esplanade and Promenade MRT stations.

The Esplanade. Picture taken from The Promontory...night scene of Singapore around Marina Bay is awesome!

Celebrate Countdown with Mediacorp Channel 5 at the float. This is the only event that requires ticket. And you are winning tickets to this event!

Alright, after the picture trail around Marina Bay area, let me introduce to you some good spot which family can lay their picnic mats to catch up with one another, and photographers can locate to take excellent firework pictures.

Spot 1: Big and spacious. Suitable for the families who need to find a place to sit down and relax.

Spot 2: Not sure if this place will be accessible to the public on New Year's Eve. But it's a good spot for many to view the fireworks!

Spot 3: Good Spot for photographers to capture highlights of the fireworks. Look at the photographers in the picture...ahha.

Spot 4: Just a nice spot to view the night scene of Singapore...

Check out our fanpage or Marina Bay countdown website for more details on the transport available.

The timings for the last train and buses will be extended on New Year's Eve!

Oh yea...and if you are interested in more pictures that I have taken during my site visit, check out our fan page too!

Here' your final chance in winning the tickets to celebrate your countdown with Mediacorp Channel 5!

Holiday Reading

I'm sure you all understand that for a reader like me, once all the family oligations and festivities of Christmas are over, it's time to read!!!

I was fortunate enough to borrow some books from a dear friend and also my sister. I also received a book for Christmas.

So far, I have read...

I seem to have lost the ability to write book reviews, so you'll just have to trust me that I enjoyed all three of them and they were very different to each other.

Dragon Tattoo and House Rules are very well known, so you've probably heard enough about both of them or have even read them yourself.

Choosing to See you may not have heard of. It is an autobiography of Mary Beth Chapman, wife of Christian singer/songwriter Steven Curtis Chapman, and focuses particularly on her struggles with depression and grief.

What have you been reading?

Resolutions...

It's almost the New Year, 2011! So what resolutions do you have for yourself this coming year? Are you just fulfilling one hope or dream on your list, or are you courageous and tackling all of them. One of my best friends, Rebecca, put it well. In her own words ..."In 2011 I am going to do the things that I am most scared of. The things that I have thought about for years, but never accomplished due to self doubt. Taking risks and re-investing in myself (my brain)." I admire Rebecca's courage and strength and have no doubt that she will accomplish what she sets out to do.

For myself, however, my resolutions tend to be smaller but just as important. But these little resolutions are sure to make a big impact in my life.
  • Take nothing for granted. (health included)
  • Spending more time outside (especially with my k-9 baby boy, Paisan)
  • Traveling more (even if it is to just get out of the city)
  • Spending more time with the people that mean the most to me.
  • Taking more time for myself and taking better care of me.
  • (This is the most important)...LEARNING TO SAY "NO"! (at least to some things :)
This last one I have struggled with my whole life and will probably continue to struggle with. I am a self professed "People Pleaser". It's one of the many reasons I love being a hairstylist...Instant gratification all day long, for both parties. While making people happy makes me happy...I also have to remember to take time for myself, because that makes me happy too! :) The idea is BALANCE!!!

I believe that 2011 is MY year, and I want to be present for all the moments it has to offer.  This coming year, I wish all of you an abundance of Love, Peace, Happiness and Balance!

Christmas Is...

Do you celebrate Christmas? Christmas as in the Christian festival celebrating the birth of Jesus? Christmas as in Santa and presents? Christmas as in family and friends and good will to all men? Christmas as in some time off work and parties and food and drink?

Christmas for me is a little bit of all of these things.

It's a time to be reminded that I am loved by God.

It's a time to give and receive presents.

It's a time to share with family and friends.

It's a time to enjoy some special foods and have a few drinks and relax and have a laugh.

This year we hosted Chris' side of the family on Christmas Day. I was a bit hesitant at first, having never hosted the in-laws for such an important family event! It turned out, however, to be a very nice day.

It was particularly heartwarming for me to see the generosity of family members in terms of how much food and drink they brought along to contribute to the dinner, and the joy everyone got from giving gifts to one another.

We had beautiful weather on Christmas Day which meant that we could spend a lot of time out of doors. Chris was in charge of the barbie, and we also enjoyed cold ham, prawns and salads.

All in all, we enjoyed a relaxing and happy day.

I hope that, whatever you celebrate, you also have had an enjoyable holiday season.
